Worth Hearing: The Beauty Shop and Lewis & Clarke

Since my discovery of the amazing Peel, which I recently wrote about, I’ve been discovering all sorts of great new music and music blogs.

My current favorite music blogs are:

•Aquarium Drunkard (and not just because they recently blogged about the The Willard Grant Conspiracy who I signed and played with back in the day).

•Cocaine Blunts

•Ear Fuzz

Each are very different, but totally great.

It was Aquarium Drunkard that recently hipped me to both The Beauty Shop, and Lewis & Clarke.

The Beauty Shop make profound acoustic music in the most effortless way possible. The instrumentation is sparse, but just right to fit the lonesome lyrics sung in baritone.

I could actually see Lewis & Clarke fitting nicely on a bill with The Beauty Shop. Again, wonderfully played acoustic music (sort of reminiscent of Red House Painters), and well-written and presented lyrics.

Both are late night, driving music, and if you like Iron & Wine, Willard Grant Conspiracy, Calexico, etc., I’m pretty sure you’ll dig both of these bands.
